America's Climate Security Act of 2008 (Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act)
The Lieberman-Warner Climate Security (S. 2191) is a bipartisan bill introduced by Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and John Warner (R-VA), helps cut global warming pollution by 2% per year, provides funding for wildlife to survive, and boosts the economy through revenue generated from the “cap and trade” system.
Current provisions in the bill are also relevant to America’s Indigenous communities and Tribes facing the impacts of global climate change. Relevant provisions include Disruption and Dislocation Assistance for Tribes, Natural Resource Adaptation Program, and Energy Assistance funds.
While S. 2191 outlines precedent-setting solutions to prevent wildlife and people from suffering from the impacts of global warming, the bill still has room for improvement when it comes to funding, allocation, and protection, for Tribes.
